Set in the mighty borough of Camden in London town, Roundhouse keeps on making history hosting two very important events on the same day. Here is what happened in late 2013 on what everyone regards as one of the main award ceremonies for festivals in the UK.
On its 10th anniversary, the UK Festival Awards joined forces with the best of the industry’s leading lights, who previously debated the challenges and opportunities facing today’s market.
Surprisingly enough, the award for Best Major Festival went to Download Festival that beat the well known Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and V Festival. Beyond any doubt, and after such a lucky year, Sheffield based-band, Arctic Monkeys, were voted this year’s Best Headline Performance for their impressive headline set at Glastonbury, outdoing grand competition from acts like The Rolling Stones, Elton John and Foals.
Newbie We are FSTVL snapped up the title of Best New Festival, while Rudimental just happened to ‘feel the love’ from the voting public, enough to win Breakthrough Act of The Year. None other than the French duo Daft Punk lucked-out in taking the title of Anthem of The Summer for their catchy hit “Get Lucky”.
After some careful considerations, the winner of Best Line-up went to Latitude, a festival which continues to gather the finest acts in music and the arts. Fiona Stewart of Green Man Festival was awarded the Outstanding Achievement award being a champion of the independent festival sector.
James Drury, Managing Director of UK Festival Awards reported that the five hundred thousand votes that were cast from the public made this award season one of the most fiercely-fought, and added huge congratulations to whoever made the top 10, considering that over 340 festivals were running for it.
