The Rose of Tralee International festival is one of Ireland’s largest and longest running festivals, celebrating 55 years in 2014.Originally, only women from Tralee were eligible to compete; in the early 1960s it was extended to include any women from Kerry, and in 1967 it was further extended to include any women of Irish birth or ancestry.
The heart of the festival is the selection of the Rose of Tralee – a woman so ‘lovely & fair as the Rose of the summer’ who will act as an Ambassador for Tralee for the year. The event brings young women of Irish descent from around the world to County Kerry, Ireland for a global celebration of Irish culture.
The festival also includes street entertainment, carnival, live concerts, theatre, circus, markets, funfair, fireworks and our internationally renowned Rose Parade.
It starts tomorrow!!!! 15th to 19th August 2014
